Four current members of parliament from Machakos county have endorsed the re-lection of Dr. Alfred Mutua. The MPs Benson Mbai of Masinga constituency, Francis Mwangangi of Yatta constituency, Victor Kioko of Machakos Town constituency, Patrick King’ola of Mavoko constituency. They spoke at various meetings today in Machakos.
Benson Mbai who was today speaking in a rally in Masinga constituency where he is drumming support for his relection, declined to unilaterally endorse Wavinya Ndeti and asked his electorates to vote for a ‘strong’ leader who can steer the County to greater heights. Benson further said that he was happy with the work of the current Governor of Machakos Dr Alfred Mutua.
“I have no problems with Mutua, he has done so well.” Said Benson.
Francis Mwangangi was speaking today in Yatta. He asked the people Yatta to “make informed choices” and vote in a leader not a populist.
Kenyan Herald phoned Victor Kioko of Machakos Town Constituency. Victor confirmed that he fully supports the relection of Mutua as “Wavinya Ndeti lacks proper plans to steer the county forward”. Victor Kioko took issue with Wavinya Ndeti saying that beyond being supported by Kalonzo Musyoka, she did not clearly state how she intends to run the county. “She lacks focus and it will be so bad for the people of Machakos to elect her”.
Speaking on phone as well, Patrick King’ola of Mavoko Constituency said “We can not possibly throw our county into disarray just because of a party. Mutua is ok for the county. We care less his party.” Patrick King’ola has been the member of Parliament of Mavoko constituency since 2013.
This endorsement comes a few days after the court in Nairobi gave a OK for Wavinya Ndeti to run as WIPER Gubernatorial candidate for Machakos County.
Machakos county is a hotly contested county with Mutua running for the second time. Dr Mutua launched his manifesto last week. There are reports that Wavinya Ndeti destroyed samples of her manifesto and postponed it after glaring mistakes.
A recent poll has placed Mutua on the lead against his nearest competitor Wavinya Ndeti.
Robert Mbui Member of Parliament of of Kathiani did not respond to our calls. But he sent us an email regarding our query on his stand as far as Machakos County 2017 Gubernatorial race is concerned. In his email Robert Mbui states that he is keen to run for Machakos County big seat in 2022. Sources close to his campaign have confirmed to the Herald that the legislator would rather have Mutua finish his term than have a new entrant who will complicate his bid in 2022.
