Police in Nairobi have arrested three of their colleagues for allegedly releasing Covid-19 protocols violators for free.
The three officers were taken into custody on Tuesday, December 8 after they released suspects who were arrested for violating Covid-19 regulations in Karen.
According to K24 Digital, the three officers, Samuel Shitanda of Service Number 63352, Godfrey Mbogo of Service Number 107972 and Isaac Hassan of Service Number 105699 allegedly released the suspects while being transported to Hardy Police station.
The suspects are reported to have been arrested during a police patrol on Lang’ata Road on Monday midnight, December 7.
The suspects were partying at Redbrick bar located along Lang’ata Road during the curfew hours.
This prompted the officers to raid the facility where they arrested several revellers and bundled them into a waiting police van.
The three officers were left to watch after the suspects as their colleagues went to raid other bars in the area which were still open.
It is at this point that Shitanda, Mbogo and Hassan decided to free the suspects unconditionally.
The other cops were shocked to find the police van empty when they returned with more revellers.
This led to a bitter verbal exchange between the officers, leading to the three being arrested and taken to Hardy Police Station.
They will be with the offence of negligence once the investigations are completed.us
