Three GSU officers posing as DCI detectives, involved in an incident of false arrest have been released on cash bail pending directions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The officers who are based at the Ruiru GSU camp are said to have arrested the wrong person on September 9.
The trio; Gideon Sumare, Kelvin Omerikwa and Shallan Ooro, DCI George Kinoti said, could not be arraigned as the victim sought to withdraw the charges.

In a series of tweets, the DCI boss said the three officers disguised as DCI sleuths arrested victim as he parked his car outside his residence in Nyayo high Rise and forced him into a private Toyota Land cruiser.
The motor vehicle belonged to a civilian suspect identified as Nelson Sechere Mukura.
“Instructions from the fourth suspect (Sechere) to the officers was to arrest a land dealer who had allegedly defrauded his female friend Sh 800,000 but ended up mistaking him for someone else,” the tweet read.
The suspects demanded Sh200,000 from the victim so as to secure his release. Preliminary investigations show that the victim raised Sh115,000 which was found to have been sent to a number linked to police constable Sumare.
The officer was also found in possession of the SIM card used.

“A complete file with the preferred charges was today forwarded to the ODPP for perusal but the suspects could not be arraigned as the ODPP was further issued with an affidavit sworn by the victim seeking to withdraw the charges,” Kinoti said.
The DCI indicated that the fate of the suspects lies in the DPP’s hands.
