Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has claimed that there is a ploy to charge her with murder.
Speaking outside Mombasa Law Courts in Tuesday after being charged with conspiracy to defraud the Malindi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) of Sh19 million, Jumwa alleged that the murder charges will be brought forward in two weeks.
According to the legislator, her support for a William Ruto presidency is to blame for her woes.
“I know all this is being done to fight me because of my stand. In two weeks, they are planning to bring me here again to charge me with murder, but I want to tell them I will not be cowed down by their attempts to bring me down,” she said.
The unshaken former Raila Odinga loyalist said her troubles were politically instigated, adding that she will make sure to defeat her detractors.
“They have plotted everything, but I will remain in this country and I will not be defeated by them,” she added.
In October 2019, the embattled lawmaker was arrested alongside Geofrey Okuto for their involvement in the death of Michael Jola Ngumbao, uncle of Ganda MCA Ruben Mwamure Katana during the Ganda by-election.
Jumwa and Okuto are said to have stormed the deceased’s home where he was meeting poll agents ahead of the by-election.
According to Jumwa, Ngumbao was shot dead long after she had left.
“I am not armed, I do not possess a gun or shown any interest to apply for a firearm licence. Therefore, the people who organised the illegal meeting should take responsibility for the death,” she said.
The accused persons were freed on Sh500,000 cash bail.
On Monday, the fiery MP was arraigned in a Mombasa court where she was charged with conflict of interest, money laundering and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
She was freed on Sh2 million bail or an alternative of Sh5 million bond with a surety of the same amount.
The case will be mentioned on September 21.
