Alfred Mutua Hits Out at Ruto Over His Stand on BBI Report

The Difference between Deputy President William Ruto and Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua could be far from over after Mutua hit out at the DP over his stand on the Building Bridges Initiative, BBI report.

Mutua, who was speaking on Thursday morning during the DayBreak show at citizen Tv, accused the DP saying he is used to opposing constitutional amendments, even when it means good for the country.

According to Mutua, Ruto is a habitual opposer, who despite having his own reservations for rejecting the report, has been ungenuine and wants to use the report for his own benefits.

“The BBI is very important. DP William Ruto has, from the very beginning, been opposed to it. He was opposed to the 2005 referendum, he opposed the 2010 constitution, he’s opposed to this one (BBI)…we’re used to it…he’s a habitual opposer,” he stated.

Mutua claimed that Ruto was opposing the report because he feels that his ambitions to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as the next head of state have been curtailed.

While accusing Ruto of neglecting Uhuru in fulfilling the Big Four Agenda, Mutua said the second in command started campaigning for 2022 since the first day they were elected into office.

“William Ruto has been campaigning from the start. For him, everything is about the presidency…The first reason he opposed the BBI is because he felt it was being used to curtail his 2022 ambitions. He has to realize that constitution is not made for him or Raila to be the president, its made for Kenyans,” he added.

Mutua said the report was going to benefit generations to come and should therefore be embraced and amended to accommodate all views of Kenyans.

However, Mutua urged President Uhuru to address the high cost of treating Covid-19 disease, saying the government should ensure that treatments at all public hospitals are made free for all patients.

On his part, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo claimed that the DP and his team are opposed to the BBI process because they believe there’s a certain setup which has worked to their advantage in the last two elections and will work for them in 2022 now that President Kenyatta is not running.

“Their view is; Do Not fix anything, because they believe if its fixed, it might work against them,” claimed Omollo.
