All M-Shwari services will be unavailable for two days beginning Friday, November 20 to Sunday, November 21, NCBA has announced.
In a statement on Thursday, November 19 NCBA, the lender which runs M-Shwari stated that this will be occasioned by the planned system enhancement.
The lender stated that the planned maintenance will kick off at 11.59pm on Friday and end at 2.30pm on Saturday.
During this time, customers will not be able to access all M-Shwari services.
“We will be conducting a planned system enhancement on our M-Shwari platform from Friday, during this period, all M-Shwari services will be unavailable,” NCBA said.
The mobile lending platform is being managed jointly by NCBA telecommunications giant Safaricom.
The platform offers subscribers a bank account through mobile phones, enables one to save money for a fixed period, and offers an opportunity for one to move money in and out of the savings account to an M-Pesa account.
The mobile loans on M-Shwari have grown over the past seven years with many Kenyans switching to mobile lenders to get quick loans.
The platform has disbursed loans amounting to over Ksh 430.5 billion over those years with the subscribers standing at 450,000.
However, the platform has recorded an increase in bad loans during this Covid-19 period as borrowers distressed by the pandemic struggled to service their loans.
The telco has had service interruptions several times, mainly on weekends in the past few months in their routine maintenance exercise.
