Barack Obama on Wednesday night delivered his virtual speech on the third day of Democratic National Convention, telling Americans to come out in large numbers to vote in the November 3 elections.
The 44th president, who captured the attention of the world with his message of hope and change, told his audience that his vice president during his tenure at the White House was fit to lead the country.
He said that Trump was a threat to American Democracy and that his narcissistic nature, laziness and penchant for conspiracy theories was setting a bad direction for the American people.
Obama who was speaking from Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia took time to rile against the leadership and policies of Republican President Donald Trump.
In his fiery speech against Trump’s policies, Obama said that Trump had not proved his fitness to lead nor taken the commander in chief job seriously.
“I never expected that my successor would embrace my vision or continue my policies…I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously.” Obama said.
“That he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care. But he never did.”
Trump’s Chaotic Handling of Coronavirus Pandemic
Obama’s speech gave a clear indictment of President Trump’s failures to unite the country and contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 170, 000 people in the US.
“And the consequences of that failure are severe…170,000 Americans dead. Millions of jobs gone while those at the top take in more than ever.”
President Obama’s DNC remarks come days after his wife, immediate former
first lady Mitchelle Obama said that Trump was the wrong President for America.
Mrs. Obama who has never been shy from speaking her mind, had said that the last four years have been the most difficult for the American people, because of the divisive nature of president Trump’s rhetoric.
“Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country… Because whenever we look to this White House for some leadership, or consolation or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy.” continued Mrs. Obama.
