Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich got off to a flying start to the 2020/2021 season.
Las season’s sensation Serge Gnabry scored a hat-trick and a debut goal for new signing Leroy Sane debut as they thrashed Schalke 8-0 on the opening day of the season.
The win was Bayern’s 22nd straight victory under Manager Hansi Flick at the Allianz Arena.
Sane was the provider for two of Gnabry’s three goals and made it a debut to remember after his summer move from Manchester City.
Others on the score sheet were Leon Goretzka, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and 17-year-old Jamal Musiala.
Bayern have now gone for 8 months without a defeat even as Schalke go 7 months without a Bundesliga victory.
Gnabry opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a curling strike into the corner of the net.
Thomas Muller set up Goretzka for the second goal before Robert Lewandowski made it three from the penalty spot.
The former Arsenal man Gnabry scored a simple tap in from a Leroy Sane square pass before the former Manchester City midfielder again assisted Gnabry for his hat trick with a ball that slipped through the legs of goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann.
Thomas Muller got on the score sheet in the 69th minute after a sumptuous cross from Lewandowski.
Sane’s debut goal and a goal for Bayern’s youngest scorer in Bundesliga history Musiala completed the thrashing of the Schalke side who are winless since January 17th.
