On Thursday last week, the Building Bridges Initiative team canceled a ceremony meant to launch the collection of BBI signatures across the country.
This was after the Deputy President William Ruto was said to have held a three-hour-long meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House.
The decision to cancel the launch at the last hour seemed to have irked many inside the ruling party as well as leaders from Raila Odinga’s ODM party, with questions arising on whether the handshake initiative was on its death bed.
And on Monday, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, while reacting to DCI Boss George Kinoti’s decision to revive 2007-2008 post-election violence cases, spelt doom for the initiative.
Through his Twitter page, the vocal ODM senator opined that the report might be on its death bed, adding that the recent decision by the DCI to revive PEV cases was a clear indication to that.
“So in 2007/8 there was no evidence of PEV? I would love to see the new evidence inplace! We must be very careful on the direction we choose to take politically! From a distance one might argue that BBI is dead,” tweeted Ledama.
Ledama claimed that the state’s decision to tame some individuals through BBI might have failed hence the decision to introduce PEV cases, which he said was going to form the next big debate after BBI.
“Now what next? let’s scatter the succession debate with new PEV talks” he concluded.

Senator Ledama’s sentiments were echoed by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who also claimed that the DCI’s decision was another desperate move by the Deep State to curtail DP William Ruto after its alleged first efforts to bring him down failed.
Murkomen, who is a close ally to the DP, alleged that the System wants to incite communities living in the Rift Valley region, and especially the cosmopolitan region of Uasin Gishu against each other, as one way of weakening Ruto’s political strength in Mt. Kenya region.
“The statement by DCI is a desperate move by the System after failing in all their efforts to bring down the DP. They want to incite violence against communities in R.Valley&especially Eldoret to weaken DP’s political strength in Mt.Kenya. They may even burn houses or Kill people,” claimed Murkomen.
I urge all communities in R.Valley and across the country to resist any form of violence especially the state sponsored violence. DCI is engaged in the comedy of the absurd but not without the support of desperados in highest offices. When we said NEVER AGAIN we meant it. RESIST
