Pressure is mounting on President Uhuru Kenyatta to reign in on his Cabinet Secretaries accused of politicking instead of carrying out their respective duties as directed by the head of state.
Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru has pointed fingers at Cabinet Secretaries led by Interior’s Fred Matiang’i and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa accusing them of engaging in premature 2022 politics.
While speaking in her Laikipia County on Friday, September 4, the vocal legislator said the president should make up his mind and fire his cabinet secretaries for defying his orders.
Waruguru in particular targeted Fred Matiang’i for his politically charged meeting with local administrators in Kajiado County on Thursday where he said that he was now ripe to run for the country’s top seat in 2022.
The former Ruto fierce supporter told those Cabinet Secretaries seeking political seats in 2022 to step down and focus on their campaigns instead.
“If you want a legacy, fire them because they are using government resources to campaign and relay their 2022 ambitions,” she advised.
“We cannot allow someone who has been entrusted with the security of this country, to go round politicking. Kenyans registered for Huduma numbers last year, we have not seen responsibility or heard of the way forward.” Waruguru said.
She further noted that the senior government officials have let down the president in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and should be fired with immediate effect for derailing the president’s agenda of reopening the economy.
“We are still in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic and instead of the CS advising the president to open up the economy, he is busy looking for votes. It is not wrong to do so but they have to be relieved of their duties,” stated the legislator.
On the fate of former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, the legislator said that Uhuru was applying double standards by allowing the likes of Eugene Wamalwa and Mutahi Kagwe to use state machinery for political gains.
“These people are busybodies and president, they are lying to you. You need to come back and engage the people who put you in office,” she continued.
On Thursday, three Cabinet Secretaries led by Fred Matiang’i and Mutahi Kagwe while on a covid-19 preparedness tour of Kajiado County took time off their duties to make political comments directed at DP William Ruto.
During the meeting, Environment CS Keriako Tobiko directed his displeasure at the DP, telling him to stop hosting political delegations at his Karen Office.
On the other hand, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that he would not have attended the
meeting in Kajiado if it was the DP who had sent him.
Their comments received serious backlash from William Ruto’s allies, with Kipchumba Murkomen telling off Tobiko as a clerk in the government who cannot even win an MCA seat.
On Friday, an angry Tobiko lashed at Ruto’s allies led by the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator telling them to respect the president.
The former DPP further asked the DP to respect his boss, saying that respect was a ‘two way traffic.’
