Agriculture Cabinet Secretary(CS) Peter Munya has confirmed the retailing price of rare essential farm commodity in this current year(2020). Farmers, especially in the North Rift Region Block Counties where farming is largely practised, have had yearly fluctuations in fertilisers prices.
Speaking on Friday at Eldoret Town during the official opening of Eldoret ASK show, Munya confirmed they have agreed to sell fertilizers at Kshs 2,300 per 50 kg bag. Unlike last year where they were many brokers leading to price rise, Munya now says the channel will be clean this year.
“Already an agreement has been signed between manufacturers and suppliers. There will be no brokers,” Peter Munya affirmed
Furthermore, touched on the quality of the seed to be sold to farmers stating that the Kenya Seed Company should provide seeds that have a level of germination acceptable to farmers. He also advised on diverse farms crops to avoid the possibility of farmers relying much on a single crop.
“We should not depend on one crop alone and I’m happy that Governor Jackson Mandago EGH is encouraging his farmers to plant other crops like coffee, macadamia and avocado,” Munya added
Uasin Gishu Jackson Mandago through his official Facebook page lauded Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) for giving farmers an opportunity to acquire what he termed as modern skills and technologies in best agriculture practises. He called upon all farmers to the advantage of the event.
