Nakuru East MP David Gikaria has been arrested in connection with the chaos witnessed in Nakuru town on Monday.
The lawmaker is being held at the Central Police station in Nakuru town.
There was chaos in the town’s Central Business District (CBD) as matatu operators protested against their eviction from the area.
Chaos erupted after police tried to disperse the demonstrators by lobbing teargas cannisters.
The matatu operators pelted the anti-riot police with stones causing a standoff that led to disruption of traffic and businesses.
They also sought audience with Governor Lee Kinyanjui who ordered their eviction last week.
The county boss said the ban from the town centre was a way of decongesting it and combat the spread of Coronavirus.
“We have now decided that no matatus will be allowed back to the CBD,” he said.
“The move is aimed at ensuring our town grows. My administration will make sure matatu operators are comfortable in the places they were relocated to. We will ensure the new matatu termini outside the CBD have social amenities like toilets as well as water.”
The affected matatu operators include: Mololine Prestige Shuttle, Prestige Shuttle, 2NK, Nyakakima Line, Nairobi Line and Njoro Line.
