Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has laid bare the vicious political struggles and machinations threatening to rip the ruling party apart even as the clamour for constitutional changes takes center stage.
Speaking to Citizen Tv’s Waihiga Mwaura, Murathe said that Uhuru Kenyatta will not endorse anyone from Jubilee for the top seat, especially his deputy William Ruto.
While defending himself from accusations by DP Ruto that he is among junior officials who have hijacked the party, Murathe said the Deputy President and his friends left the ruling party and went to form Jubilee Asili.
He went on to accuse the DP of gross insubordination where he has on several occasions
contradicted the president publicly over the direction of BBI.
At the same time, the former Gatanga Member of Parliament said that their differences with Ruto are not personal.
On President Uhuru Kenyatta failing to endorse Ruto for the top sit come the next general elections, Murathe opines that he (Ruto) has been on ‘probation’ and that the jury is out. He cannot be trusted to take over from Uhuru Kenyatta.
Murathe now says that the president will leave the leadership of this country in safest hands when he goes home in 2022.
“When the Party Leader expresses himself on an issue that is the party position and if he (DP Ruto) doesn’t like it he should ship out…”
“He (Ruto) has been on probation, he has been tested and during that time they were trying to see if he would take over, but look the jury is out there,” Murathe said.
He further said, “When you are the president, you have an obligation to look around and determine who is the right person to take over from you……when you leave the country in the wrong hands people will blame you.”

“I have no problem with Ruto’s candidature. But I don’t think he is the right person to succeed President Uhuru given the way he has behaved as deputy President,” he said.
The Jubilee vice chair laid bare the ghosts of corruption allegations bedeviling the DP, and noted that going for the elections with all the baggage on his shoulders is not good for the country.
“Look at the scandals, the Weston Hotel land, the Ruai public land….when all these things follow you and you shamelessly walk around while you are number two, what will you do when you become number one?” Murathe said
On the relationship between Jubilee party and Raila Odinga, Murathe said that their goal is work together with the former PM in 2022.
“In 2022 there will be new political formations & I’m hoping we will be on the same side with the Rt Hon. Former Prime Minister as Jubilee. I know the ‘Tuko sote pamoja’ wing may have other ideas & that’s why we are saying the sooner they ship out the better”
“I’m calling on Kenyans to consider the Right Honorable Former Prime Minister as the transitional leader come 2022”
