The family of Maranda High School teacher, who went missing on October 10, can now breathe a sigh of relief after his remains were found.
Two weeks after he was reported missing, the decomposed body Kevin Otieno Ongoma was found floating in River Nzoia.
Confirming the new development, Siaya county police commander Mr Francis Kooli told the media Friday that family members positively identified the body.
“Someone spotted a body in the river with similar clothes to the ones the teacher had when he went missing. The school was later informed about the discovery,” Kooli said.
While the investigation over his death is underway, initial reports point to a possible suicide, with close friends and neighbours saying that on the day that he disappeared, he and his wife had a bad argument.
“It is highly suspected that he might have committed suicide by throwing himself into the river but investigations will however establish what happened,” said Mr Kooli.
The Biology department head was last seen driving out of the school compound on October 9 and his vehicle was found the following day abandoned near River Nzoia in Ugunja Sub-county.
“He left the school quarters that morning and drove himself to an unknown destination,” said Mr Kooli.
Investigators further say that the teacher’s two mobile phones were switched off near the banks of river Nzoia where his vehicle was recovered.
The teacher’s body was taken to Ambira Sub-county Hospital mortuary with his burial set for Monday, October 26 at his home village in Mbosie.
