DP Ruto Postpones Nyamira Fundraisers Following Chaotic Events

Deputy President William Ruto has cancelled the Nyamira fundraiser following chaotic events witnessed earlier today.

The DP was supposed to attend two fundraising events, one for bodaboda riders and another for Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) churches.

Following discussions with area leaders, the second in command said the events will be moved to next week Thursday.

“After consultations with MPs Kemosi, Mose, Nyamoko, the bodaboda sacco and church leadership who had invited us, we have postponed the two functions in Nyamira County to Thursday next week. The disruptive dispersal by police of Kenyans engaged in economic empowerment is unnecessary,” he tweeted.

Tensions rose after anti-riot police dispersed the “hustler movement” supporters at Kebirigo High School.

Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba is said to have banned the planned meetings at Kebirigo and Miriri Secondary in Kitutu Masaba constituency citing yesterday’s directive by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

“Following an advisory by the National Security Council, Nyamira County commissioner Mr. Amos Mariba has with immediate effect suspended DP Ruto’s Nyamira tour which was scheduled on 8th October, 2020 for failing to notify and abide by the NSC guidelines,” said Mr Mariba.

Earlier on in the day, police officers manning the grounds demanded a band stop playing music before ordering them out of the venue.

“Following that order, you have a few minutes to vacate this place as soon as you can,” a senior police officer was heard saying.

Later, videos circulating online showed the police lobbing teargas at the DP supporters.
