DP Ruto’s Tanga Tanga Accused of Faking Violence Photos

Political temperatures across the country continue to rise high enough to bring about the kind of violence that produces casualties with two years to the 2022 general elections.

What has left many Kenyans wondering is the motive behind the violence that is being witnessed in Deputy President William Ruto’s political meetings across the country.

Indeed, no single ever imagined that election-related deaths will be witnessed in the country at this early, two years to an election leave alone not even happening at all.

In what seems to be taking advantage of the current situation, Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga camp is now on the spot for allegedly faking violence photos to prove their point.

In a post on his official Twitter page that he has since deleted, Dennis Itumbi who is a member of DP Ruto’s campaign team posted a photo allegedly showing a police officer lobbing teargas canister at supporters of DP’s supporters in Msambweni.

The photo which he captioned with a hashtag “DeepStateVsWheelbarrow, Itumbi showed how supporters of the deputy president are suffering from the hands of the state machineries.

A comprehensive analysis of the photo showed that it Itumbi photoshopped an image taken during demonstrations in Hong Kong, China in July 2019.

Itumbi edited the original photo that showed a demonstrator reacting to a teargas during a protest against the Yuen Long attacks in Hong Kong new territories in July 2019.

Furthermore, the police did not teargas DP’s allies during the aborted Msambweni meeting as claimed by Itumbi in his post.

On Friday morning, anti-riot police officers disrupted DP’s allies’ meeting at Ukunda Showground in Msambweni Constituency.

The officers are said to have barricaded roads leading to the venue where the leaders were to discuss ways, they would take on Raila Odinga’s ODM in the Msambweni parliamentary by-election.

The meeting was to be led by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa and former Senators Johnstone Muthama, Boniface Khalwale and Hassan Omar.

“Police mounted roadblocks and blocked Faisal Abdalla Bader former Senators; Johnson Muthama, Hassan Omar, Boni Khalwale, and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa from meeting at the venue,” Soy MP Caleb Kositany said on his official Twitter page.

“Now in Msambweni. Under police attack! Completely blocked from Diana Beach Hotel, the venue of our today’s Hustlers’ delegates conference. Barricades, intimidation, delegates tear gassed..” Former Kakamega Senator Boniface Khalwale tweeted.

This comes barely a day after Ruto was forced to cancel his Nyamira tour following chaos that rocked Kebirogo grounds, the venue where he was to attend a fundraiser.

DP’s allies were to use the Kwale meeting to drum up support for independent candidate Feisal Bader, who is eyeing the Msambweni seat in the by-election that will be conducted in December 15.

The second-in-command’s recent meetings have been rocked with violence. Two people died last Sunday in Muranga after Tanga Tanga and Kieleweka supporters clashed at Kenol ahead of DP’s arrival in the region.
