Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has ordered for the arrest and prosecution of Migori Governor Okoth Obado to face charges of stealing 73 million shillings county funds.
The DPP through a press conference says that their investigations unearth a conspiracy network that allowed the governor to steal funds through proxies and relatives.
“Okoth Obado indirectly and in conflict of interest, received a benefit totalling to Ksh. 73, 474, 376 from companies and businesses that traded with Migori County Government.” said DPP.
Four of Obado’s children have been mentioned in the scheme and the DPP said that anyone involved in the theft will face prosecution.
Investigations reveal that the ODM governor used his children as conduit for the theft of public money.
“A trail of money reveal that the companies wired 38 million shillings to the governor’s children’s accounts which were used to pay school fees, upkeep and maintenance in Australia, Scotland and the United Kingdom,” said the DPP.
Another 34 million shillings was directed at purchasing a house in Loresho Ridge for his other daughter Evelyne Adhiambo.
The press statement from the DPP says that the alleged theft of the funds happened between 2014 and 2014.
