Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has written to Interior CS Fred Matiangi and IG Hillary Mutyambai claiming that his life is in danger.
He has alleged that there is a secret plot planned by an assassination squad specifically created to get rid of him.
In a letter also copied to DCI boss George Kinoti, the outspoken legislator has asked the government to beef up his security.
“I now request your office to take immediate action to enhance the security detail assigned to me, including additional security provided immediately to my family and my residences in Kakamega and Nairobi,” said the senator in a letter.
“We await your immediate positive action to enhance my security detail so as to guard against this illegality and threat to my life, a Member of Parliament and the Senate.” further read the letter.
The senate minority leader also told the Senate speaker Ken Lusaka that the threats to his life are credible no one should wish them away.
Two weeks ago, Malala was among 2 other senators arrested as the senate reconvened to debate the contentious county revenue sharing bill for the 9th time.
Bomet senator Christopher Lang’at was arrested at his home in Nairobi and taken to Bomet to answer to charges of inciting his community against their neighbouring Maasai community. Samburu senator Steve Lelegwe was also arrested on his way to parliament.
The arrests may have been linked to their stand on the Revenue Sharing Bill that the Senate failed to pass after sitting for 11 times.
