The gunmen fired to the air before escaping through the neighouring Karua forest. According to police reports some sustained gunshot wounds.
“We are investigating the incident. We will know the truth in a short while,” Yakub said.
It is still not clear how the robbers gained access to the residence which is located in one of the most affluent and expansive neighbourhoods in the city however, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are suspecting that it might be an inside job.
Chandaria told the detectives that he woke up just to find two armed men in his bedroom after hearing a loud bang on his gate.
He added that the thugs, who were armed with pistols and cutters, demanded cash and jewelry before he showed them where the safe was.
The three security guards and the AP officer have since been taken in for questioning as investigations into the incident commence.
