The Betting Control and Licensing Board has cleared betting company SportPesa to resume operation under Milestone Games Limited Company.

In a statement on Friday, November 20, BCLB stated that it had lifted the suspension on the betting company and also called off a meeting that had been scheduled for November 26.

“Pursuant to section 4(1)(b) of the Betting, Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap.131 of the Laws of Kenya, the suspension of your bookmaker’s Off-The Course license for 2020/2021 FY has lapsed.”

“Further, our letter of October 30 mentioned herein is hereby withdrawn…. the meeting that had been scheduled for November 26 as communicated vide our letter dated November 19 is hereby canceled,” reads the statement in part.

This comes barely a day after the High Court Justice Pauline Nyamweya’s on Wednesday, November 16 quashed the recent ban on use of SportPesa brand by Milestone Bet and ordered the reopening of its Pay bill platform by Safaricom.

further certified the case by the gaming company as urgent saying that there are likely effects of the decision being challenged in court.

“The ex parte Applicant is granted leave to apply for an order of Certiorari to move into this Court for purposes of being quashed, a decision of the Respondent contained in the letter dated 31st October 2020 Ref No. BCLB 11/152 VOL.I (14) indefinitely and unilaterally suspending the lawfully issued license to the Ex Parte Applicant,” Lady Justice Nyamweya ordered.

The board had stopped the Milestone games limited from using the trade name Sportpesa, the domains www.ke.sportpesa.com, www.sportpesa.co.ke, short codes 29050, 79079 and paybill numbers.
