A school headteacher at Chirobani Primary School in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County on Tuesday morning, December 1 collapsed and died at the school gate while reporting to work.
According to reports, the 38-year-old teacher fell and died just outside the school’s main gate.
The deceased was identified as Allan Muchika.
Shinyalu OCPD Robert Makau confirmed the incident to K24 Digital.
The cause of Muchika’s death still remains unclear.
Police arrived at the scene of the incident and took the headteacher’s body to Shinyalu hospital morgue pending a postmortem examination.
This comes amid rise of Covid-19 infections in schools.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) revealed that a total of 33 teachers had died of Covid-19 as of November 25.
TSC statistics revealed that out of the 36 teachers who have so far succumbed to the coronavirus, 19 among them passed away in the month of November, 11 in October, 3 in September while a teacher died every month between June and August.
The commission stated that at least 1 teacher died every month between June and August, bringing the number of teachers lost during the pandemic to 36.
TSC also stated that 145 other teachers have visited hospitals seeking COVID-19 medication since it announced that the teachers medical insurance will cover COVID-19.
