Wiper Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained that he will run for presidency in the 2022 general elections, arguing that time had come for others to support his bid.
“The time has come for President Kalonzo Musyoka. Any other leader who will come between me and running for election will probably end up with me in the same coalition or face me on the other side,” Kalonzo said in an exclusive interview with NTV on Saturday evening.
The former vice president reiterated that his party is working towards adopting a Party constitution that will enable it form coalitions with likeminded parties in readiness for 2022 elections.
“I wanted to give the assurance that Wiper will have a presidential candidate in 2022 which is now exactly under two years.” Kalonzo had earlier said in a different event in Said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo’s utterances comes at a time when his Ukambani counterpart Kivutha Kibwana who is the Makueni Governor has hinted that he will also be vying for the presidency in 2022.
“I have earned the right to be called the defacto Ukambani kingpin…it comes with the ability of people to trust you” argued Kalonzo while responding to a question on supremacy battle in Ukambani politics.
Kalonzo who has recently come under heavy fire from Ukambani leaders including Machakos Governor
Alfred Mutua and former senator Johnston Muthama said that he knows too well what ails the country and has the solutions needed.
In June, Kalonzo signed a cooperation agreement with Jubilee party that also roped in Kanu in a post-election coalition arrangement.
It is only recently that Kalonzo came under heavy fire from ODM leadership when he claimed that he and Raila Odinga had a ‘secret deal’ for his 2022 presidential bid.
In an interview with Sunday Nation, Kalonzo had said that him and Raila mutually agreed in a separate deal from the one signed with NASA principals who also included ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula and CCM’s Isaac Ruto.
But in a quick rejoinder, ODM rubbished Musyoka’s claims saying that the alleged ‘secret deal’ only existed in his ‘wild dreams’.
“We know that Kalonzo tried to push Raila to commit to support him in 2022 as part of the NASA pact and as a party, we flatly rejected that demand. The so-called deal therefore only exists in Kalonzo’s wild dreams,” responded ODM in a statement by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
The statement from ODM further read “We are however not surprised that Kalonzo is making those claims. It is typical of Mr Kalonzo’s character as a two faced treacherous character who is always whining while seeking to reap where he did not sow. It is a continuation of his ‘kati kati’ brand of politics.”
