Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman on Thursday confirmed 271 new Covid-19 cases from 5,034 samples tested in the last 24 hours, pushing Kenya’s caseload to 40,178.
Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing from Trans Nzoia county, CAS Aman said all the new cases are Kenyans apart from 29 who are foreigners.
177 are male and 94 are female, while the youngest case is a one-month-old infant, and the oldest aged 83.
The CAS also announced 51 recoveries raising total to 31,170. 29 of these patients were receiving treatment in various hospitals while 22 were from the home-based care.
Further, three more patients succumbed to the novel Coronavirus, raising Kenya’s death toll to 751.
The newly detected infections were highest in Nairobi with 81 cases, Mombasa 58, Turkana 16, Kisumu 15, Garissa 15, Kiambu 13, Kisii 10 Laikipia 8, Uasin Gishu 5, Nyamira 4, Kwale 2 and Meru one.
He also noted that at least 215 prisoners from GK prison are in quarantine.
This after the ministry placed Nairobi Remand Prison on lockdown due to an upsurge in Covid-19 cases. As of Tuesday, 45 prisoners had contracted the deadly virus.
The ministry barred movement in and outside the correctional facility and suspended the admission of new remandees until the situation is under control.
