KMPDC Revokes Prestige Health Point Operating Licence For Conducting Abortions

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has ordered the closure of Prestige Health Point Medical Centre effective immediately.

The council’s CEO Daniel Yumbya on Friday said that Mwaura Karumbi and John Marore who were nabbed at the clinic are not duly registered medical practitioners.

“However, pursuant to section 15 of CAP 253, the council has ordered the closure of the health facility and suspended its Registration Certificate (KMPDC Reg No 001247) and its operating licence (Not Renewed) to pave way for necessary investigations,” Yumbya said.

Pangani detectives on Thursday apprehended the two medics, three nurses and two girls who are said to have procured abortions.

One girl said she had paid Sh12,000 and the other some Sh10,000.

Deputy police boss William Sirego said the six suspects are cooling their heels at Pangani police station.

“The men had not produced any documents to prove that they were doctors. They have no registration numbers,” he said.

The girl thought to have procured an abortion will be taken for testing before arraignment.
