Makueni based lawyer Onesmus Masaku whose hands were chopped off by lover has succumbed to the injuries at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The lawyer had been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, for treatment after the incident at his house.
The incident happened on the night of Wednesday, October 7.
Police reports indicate that the lawyer got into a tussle with the police constable, Nancy Njeri, who was stationed at Makueni Police Station.
Police said Ms Njeri turned down the lawyer’s sexual advances, but the man insisted.
“The lawyer grabbed her and started forcing her to his bedroom. This prompted the officer to grab a panga and cut him on both hands before managing to escape,” said Makueni Sub-county Police Commander Timothy Maina.
Police have since arrested the police officer and has been in custody for the past 10 days at Wote Police Station as investigations continue into the case.
Some sources allege that the two were known lovers and Njeri attempted to kill him after he refused to accede to her demands for marriage.
Lawyers led by LSK chair Nelson Havi has claimed alleged cover up, that the police were trying to protect their colleague.
“Police in Makueni are complicit in the attempted murder of Lawyer Onesmus Masaku by Policewoman Nancy Nyeri. The two are known lovers and Njeri attempted to kill him after he refused to accede to her demands for marriage. Nancy Njeri should be arrested and charged.” Havi had taken to social media to voice his concerns.
