Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to form a special unit team to deal with those breaching the Covid-19 protocols put in place by the Ministry of Health.
Addressing the nation after chairing the 6th Extraordinary Summit at State House Nairobi on Wednesday, October 4, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the Ministry of Interior to constitute a Special Enforcement Unit to enforce compliance of Covid-19 protocols at both the National and County level.
The team will include officials from the National Police Service, the national administration and County Inspectorate,
The special unit team will ensure the Coronavirus containment measures are adhered to strictly.
“To enforce compliance at both the National and County level, I, direct that the Ministry of Interior constitutes a Special Enforcement Unit made up of the National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers and supplemented by the County Government inspectorate units to jointly enforce compliance to COVID Protocols,” President Uhuru added.
President Uhuru noted that the public has ‘backslidden’ from its vigilant fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
“If the nation is succumbing to the fatigue created by the virus, it would be a tragedy if the leaders give in to the weariness as well. And if the people have fallen short of giving their best at this time, we the leaders have no option but to give our all. We must…know the way, go the way, and show the way,” the head of State said.
As at Wednesday, November 4, Kenya had recorded a total of 58,587 positive cases while the death toll reached 1,051 after 12 more patients succumbed to the disease.
