An impeachment motion against Migori Governor Okoth Obado will not be tabled after county assembly speaker Boaz Okoth suspended sittings.
Mr Okoth suspended the morning session that was set to start at 9.30 am on grounds that his life was in danger.
Address reporters, the speaker said his home was attacked by goons and his bodyguard withdrawn without warning on Tuesday night.
“Right now my life is in danger, I have to record a statement and get to know why my bodyguard was withdrawn,” Okoth said.
He has since recorded a statement with the police.
Last week, Okoth claimed that he was assaulted by goons hired by ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna.
“When I went to the balcony they were ranting and I called my bodyguard. Upon arrival, he was attacked. We have the video clips and registration numbers of the vehicles used.
“One of the youths identified as Peter, a brother to Sifuna, told my bodyguard that they knew him and they were going to deal with him,” he said.
On Tuesday, the speaker suspended sittings because MCAs did not meet the social distancing requirements.
All 57 members of the county assembly showed up for the tabling of the impeachment motion.
“All members came into the House. We must be cognizant of COVID-19 and there is a way we sit. So, I must get modalities of how we would sit if all members would want to be together at the same time,” the Speaker stated while dismissing the Assembly,” he said.
Governor Obado is set to be removed from office after the ODM party resolved to have him impeached.
This was after he (Obado), his four children and proxies were charged with Sh73.4 million fraud.
