Police in Isiolo County are searching for the body of a miraa driver who was swept away by floods along the Kinna-Garbatulla road following a heavy downpour on Friday night, October 30.
Hussein Kesane, 52, was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser towards Garissa County when he was swept away by the raging floods.
The deceased was transporting miraa from Maua in Meru County to Garissa.
According to reports, he was in the company of another man identified as Ibrahim Billow when the vehicle plunged into raging waters when they were approaching Garbatulla town, Isiolo County.
Unfortunately, only Billow managed to get out of the vehicle who later reported the incident at Garbatulla Police Station.
Police recovered only one of the missing driver’s shoes and personal documents at the scene.
Garbatulla Police Commander Alloys Orioki while confirming the incident said that the search for the body is ongoing along the flooded canal.
“The search is ongoing and we are hopeful the team will be able to retrieve the body,” said Mr Orioki.
According to Garbatulla Assistant County Commissioner Charles Jura, the physical search is becoming inadequate hence need for sniffer dogs.
“If we will not have retrieved the body by Wednesday, we will request for sniffer dogs for a complex search,” Jura told the Nation.
Relatives of the driver have also appealed to the police to intensify the search.
The police command urged motorists using the route to exercise utmost caution and avoid crossing over raging waters.
