Miraa Labelled As Fine Beans Confiscated At JKIA, Six Suspects Arrested

Security officers based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have seized 150 cartons of miraa that were concealed as ‘Fine Beans’ and ‘Ravaya’.

The miraa was found in a motor vehicle Registration No KAW 122R at the Airways Cargo Export section.

Acting on a tip off, the officers discovered that the cartons that were meant for export contained french beans and eggplants at the top but had miraa concealed underneath.

“Acting on a tip off, Security officers based at JKIA have intercepted a motor vehicle Reg No. KAW 122R at the Airways Cargo Export section where upon inspecting the contents of the 150 cartons that were labeled Fine Beans and Ravaya for export, it was established…” DCI tweeted.

In custody are six suspects namely Ahmed Habib, James Ngure, Duke Mutambo, Raphael Ngotho, Stephen Ngugi, and Julius Mulwa.

DCI has indicated that the suspects will be charged accordingly.

On September 14, DCI sleuths arrested two foreigners; Bare Adam and Osman Mohamed, with dry and fresh khat at the JKIA.

DCI said that Bare was arrested for concealing 20Kgs of dried Khat in his two suitcases while Osman had concealed 5Kgs of fresh khat in his trousers.
