Missing Senior Gov’t Official Found in Church

The senior Ministry of Health official who was reported missing 10 days ago has been found at a worship centre in Machakos town.

According to the detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Alice Wangui Gathumbi was found in the company of other women at KAG Katoloni prayer centre on Friday night, November 8.

Gathumbi was traced to the prayer centre after the detectives analysed her mobile phone data. The detectives also got information from a relative.

DCI Special Service Unit boss Pius Gitari said the lady had booked herself at the prayer centre for 10 days.

The church records indicated that Gathumbi arrived at the centre on October 29, the same day she was reported missing from her Syokimau home.

She is yet to record a statement on why she left home without informing her family of where she was going.

Gathumbi’s missing report was filed on Monday, November 2 at the Mlolongo Police Station.

According to her family, she was last seen leaving their Syokimau home on the morning of October 29.

Police had managed to obtain CCTV footage of the day she is said to have gone missing.

According to investigators, Gathumbi was captured on CCTV cameras as she was picked by a boda boda rider outside their home at 6.38 am.

Gathumbi said she was heading to an unspecified salon in town where she had booked an appointment with her hair dresser at 9 am.

She however failed to show up at the salon.

The detectives said that her mobile phone was switched off at the time of leaving her house. The mobile phone remained switched off for eight days.
