Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen has claimed that five senators opposing the Revenue Allocation Formula are being pursued by the DCI.
In a tweet, Murkomen who is also opposed to the contentious formula alleged that police seeking to arrest and prefer false charges against the unidentified lawmakers.
The former majority leader in the senate, did however, note that the officers are currently looking for Samburu senator Steve Lelegwe.
The vocal legislator warned that should any member of Team Kenya get arrested, Monday’s senate sitting would not take place.
“DCI has been ordered to arrest&prefer false charges against at least 5 Senators opposed to the oppressive Revenue Formula. They are currently going for Sen.Dr. Steve Ltumbesi Lelegwe, Samburu County.Desperation is real. Arrest any of us and there will be no session tomorrow,” he wrote.
Senators are set to vote on the Bill tomorrow, but it is said that there plans to adjourn for a record ninth time.
Murkomen claimed that speaker Ken Lusaka has been holding meetings with senators lobbying for another adjournment motion to be moved by senate minority leader James Orengo.
“Speaker Lusaka has convened a special sitting on Monday but he is busy doing rounds in city hotels lobbying Senators to support an adjournment motion to be moved by Sen.Orengo in the same sitting. We have sunk this low? he posed.
On Saturday, the presumed Deputy President William Ruto ally picked a fight with majority whip Irungu Kang’ata.
The lawmaker told off Kang’ata who has been accused of intimidating those against the Bill. He referred to him as a “clown who can’t convince anyone.”
“Muranga people left a solid negotiator Sen.Kembi&elected a clown called Kang’ata who can’t convince anyone. He should know I am not one of those BBI boys to be blackmailed. How did Jubilee replace Sen.Kihika with such a loser? Yes R.Valley would gain & YES we are for Equity.UTADO?” Murkomen said.
Kang’ata has in the recent past noted that the Mt Kenya region will abandon the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) should leaders allied to Raila Odinga not support the Bill.
In an unprecedented turn of events, senators from the Mt Kenya region have opposed the formula as have those from regions that stand to gain billions should the Bill pass.
“Somebody must have called them, they are nolonger supporting the new formula, particularly from a certain region. They are ready to sacrifice their billions just to ensure a Kikuyu county does not gain even a single shilling,” he said.
Among those opposing the formula is Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Mithika Linturi (Meru), Cleophas Malala (Kakamega), Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni) Christopher Langat (Bomet) and Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho).
