The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party on Thursday, December 3 slapped twelve defiant Members of Nairobi County Assembly with a Ksh9.25 million fine.
In a letter from the ODM party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, the party’s disciplinary committee found the MCAs guilty of charges of misconduct after disciplinary hearings.
Sifuna further revealed that his office had also received a report by the disciplinary committee in the hearing and determination of cases of misconduct by members of county assemblies from Bungoma and Nyamira.
Eight of the 12 elected MCAs have been suspended for a period of between three to six months and de-whipped from all committees at the assembly.
According to Sifuna, the MCAs have also been barred from holding any party position.
ODM stated that it will initiate a recall for the nominated MCAs found quilty.
The elected MCAs are Laini Saba Ward rep Cecili Ayot, Lower Savannah MCA Nicholas Okumu, Utalii MCA Wilson Ocholla, Maurice Gari (Nairobi West), David Okello (Huruma), Redson Otieno (Ngei), Jared Okode (Mathare North) and David Mbithi (Viwandani).
The nominated ward reps include Hafsa Khalif, Nimo Haji, Caroline Mayunzu and Millicent Akinyi.
Sifuna added that the report and recommendations will be tabled at the next party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting set to be held at the end of the month.
This comes barely a week after Jubilee party suspended nominated MCAs allied to Deputy President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Ann Thumbi, Silvia Museiya and Millicent Jagero were suspended from the party for three months on Tuesday, November 24 for going against the party position on the 2020/2021 Budget and the Memorandum from the Governor on the Nairobi County Appropriation Bill, 2020.
They were also removed from various committees they have been serving in at the County Assembly for six months.
The ruling party also put on notice two nominated MCAs allied to Governor Sonko for failing to pay monthly remittances since October 2017 amounting to Ksh340,000.
