Political temperatures high in Bomet over speaker’s position

Political temperatures in Bomet are rising after County Assembly advertised speaker’s position in one of the local newspapers.

The seat became vacant after Bomet Governor Dr Hillary Barchok picked Shadrack Rotich who was speaker as his deputy.

Chepchabas Ward Rep Hon Kiprotich Wesley who was deputy speaker has been on acting capacity as speaker since December 2019.

Among those in the race to succeed Rotich include former Bomet Senator Wilfred Lesan. Others who have submitted their applications include Weldon Chirchir, Edwin Sitienei, Kemei Tamogei and Prof Wilfred Lesan all from Konoin Constituency and Nelson Mutai of Bomet Central.

Boito ward Member of County Assembly Charles Langat (Nyesha) urged his colleagues to ensure one candidate from Konoin is backed by the County Assembly.

Speaking on phone Langat stated that since other sub-Counties (Chepalungu ,Sotik,Bomet central ,Bomet East) have big positions in the County Leadership, the speaker’s position should go to Konoin.

“Governor Hillary Barchok (Bomet East), Senator Christopher Langat (Chepalungu), Woman Representative Hon Joyce Korir (Bomet central), Deputy Governor Shadrack Rotich (Bomet Central) while Konoin lacks lucrative position,” he claimed.
