It is now a full blown crisis in Machakos county after Governor Alfred Mutua made it clear that he has refused to sign a county Assembly budget that was to give the MCAs their salary for October. Some MCAs have already confirmed that they have not received their October salaries.
Inside sources have strongly indicated that the issues in Machakos county started after it emerged that some powerful individuals were using some MCAs to derail Governor Mutua's development agenda due to the case that is yet to be decided in the Supreme Court.
The MCAs refused to pass the development budget that the executive had prepared and even went on to impeach the County Executive committee member for Finance, Eng Francis Maliti who also doubles as the Deputy Governor to Alfred Mutua.
Recently, a section of MCAs accused the Assembly speaker, madam Florence Mwangangi of using his post to wage a political tussle with Governor Mutua at the expense of the people of Machakos County. Florence has been accused of partisan politics and playing gate keeping for Kalonzo Musyoka. The MCAs have threatened to impeach the speaker.
The governor accused the MCAs of being selfish and not caring for the people that voted for them. He said that bursaries were yet to be disbursed as a result of the tussle between him and the MCAs. Mutua argued that ward representatives will not receive their salaries for failure to approve the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP)
