Protests erupt in Kisii ahead of Ruto visit

Protests Erupt in Kisii Town Ahead of DP Ruto Visit

Police are currently involved in running battles with youths who have barricaded roads are lit fires ahead of DP Ruto tour of Kisii town.

The protests have been staged by a pro-handshake team, but the DP’s supporters have come out to counter.

Ruto’s visit comes only days after the Deputy President hosted a delegation of Gusii leaders led by Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and South Mugirango Member of Parliament Silvanus Osoro.

This development comes moments after South Mugirango Mp Sylvanus Osoro accused Kisii Governor James Ongwae of pouring sewafe at Nyamarambe stadium ahead of Ruto’s visit.

The Mp noted that the governor’s actions will not stop the DP from attending a women empowerment function at his South Mugirango constituency

“That was too low of you Gov.Ongwae. Pouring sewage at the Nyamarambe stadium ahead of our function is not even disrespecting DP, but the women of South Mugirango who invited DP for a function.” Osoro wrote on his facebook page ahead of the function.

The Mp accessed the governor of lacking political maturity but warned that the meeting will go on as planned.

The earlier protests were thwarted by a group of boda boda riders who claimed that there was a plot to lock Ruto out of their planned empowerment meeting.

They took to the street armed with banners and posters showing their support for the Deputy president.

There has also been growing interest around Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i amid a push to have him run for the presidency in 2022.

DP is later expected to meet boda boda riders in Kisii town before moving to South Mugirango constituency for a meeting with women groups.
