Six suspects have escaped police custody after finding their way out through the roof of Kayole Police Station.

According to sources, five of the escapees were charged with robbery with violence while one is in custody for defilement.

It is still not yet clear how the capital offenses suspects managed to climb their way through the roof of one of the most modern police cells in the country.

Police have now launched a man hunt for the suspects.

The incident happens barely a month after 11 robbery suspects escaped a Bungoma police station by digging a hole through the wall.

The incident which cast a bad light on the security of police holding cells across the country caused a widespread outcry from Kenyans as many of the suspects were dangerous criminals.

The Bungoma 11 escapees were robbery with violence suspects Brian Ochieng and John Wanyonyi ; assault suspects Simon Wekesa, Collins Juma and Emmanuel Wakoko; Breaking and stealing suspects Isaac Wekesa and John Barasa; Alex Simiyu Muyekho (theft), Bramwell Barasa (defilement); and  Pascal Kiberenge (impersonation).

Police have so far managed to re-arrest some of the escapees including Simon Wekesa who was shot.
