United States of America President Donald Trump has announced the death of his younger brother Robert Trump who passed away on Saturday night at a hospital in New York. He was aged 71.
President Trump visited his critically ill brother on Friday after reports in the media said that he was critically ill.
“It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight. He was not just my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.” Said Trump in a statement.
CNN reports that Robert has been in the hospital since June and was in the intensive care unit for days in the month of August at Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.
While details of his illness have not been divulged to the media, the 71 year old businessman was always close to the president and Trump on Friday took time to visit him as headed to New Jersey.
“I have a wonderful brother. We have a great relationship for a long time, from day one, so long time ago. And he’s in the hospital right now…Hopefully he’ll be alright, but he is having a hard time,” Trump had told reporters on Friday.
Born in 1948, he worked as an Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization and married Ann Marie Pallan earlier in 2020.
Plans are underway for his funeral where the president is expected to attend.
