Days after announcing that he will be making charm offensive visits to Kisumu and Migori counties, Deputy President William Ruto has been warned against attacking the ODM boss Raila Odinga should he actually visit the two counties.
While welcoming Ruto to the region, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party officials in Kisumu urged the DP to avoid direct verbal attacks against Raila Odinga.
Addressing the press on Friday, Kisumu ODM County Chairman Ayiecho Olweny stated that William Ruto is welcomed in the two counties since every politician was free to visit any part of the country.
He however warned that any insults against their party leader Raila Odinga will not be tolerated in the lakeside city. He added they were closely watching the DP, whom he said has always been insulting their party leader in every meeting he holds in the country.
“If someone insults your friend, your father, your associate, you won’t be happy. We always watch him (DP Ruto) on television insulting the [ODM] Party leader. We are requesting him not to do that when he tours Kisumu,” Olweny told a local publication on Friday.
At the same time, Olweny, who was accompanied by other ODM officials warned those who will be attending the meeting to remain peaceful throughout Ruto’s visit.
He said Kisumu will remain Raila Odinga’s stronghold and that will not change no matter how many visits the self-proclaimed hustler will make. He urged the residents to take the goodies that will be brought by Ruto and preserve their vote for the region’s kingpin.
“If he brings goodies, take them but that does not mean that everyone who attends that function is his supporter” he added
The DP is banking on his recent ‘political recruit’, Eliud Owalo, and former Kisumu Trade and Industrialisation executive, Richard Ogendo, to lay the groundwork for his maiden visit to Kisumu.
He will also be expected in embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s county, where the DP is expected to be hosted by Obado, who has since declared war on the ODM party over its intentions to have him impeached as governor over alleged graft claims.
