Samburu Senator Lelegwe Arrested, Taken In For Grilling

Samburu senator Dr Steve Lelegwe has been arrested, former majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen has claimed.

In a tweet, the Elgeyo Marakwet lawmaker said his colleague had been taken to Samburu for grilling.

“Senator Lelegwe (Samburu County) has just been arrested he is being taken to Samburu for “grilling”,” he wrote.

Earlier, the vocal legislator had warned that Senate sittings set for today (Monday) would not take place unless his counterparts from Kakamega and Bomet; Cleophas Malala and Dr Christopher Langat, respectively were not produced.

“The senate will not proceed this morning unless they Produce Senator Malala (Kakamega) and Senator Langat (Bomet). This is no longer about Money it’s about our lives!” he exclaimed.

Officers allegedly drawn from the DCI surrounded Malala’s and Langat’s home in a bid to stop them from voting against the contentious revenue sharing formula.

Langat while speaking to reporters from his window said he had been advised to travel to his home county or risk arrest.

“There is no need of all this..I am being threatened from every corner and i have evidence.. I have talked to the speaker and everybody… When I refused to go to Bomet, they told me I will be arrested,” he said.

The officers were still at his house on Monday morning.

In Malala’s case, the police officers arrived at his home at around 3 am.

He too, declined to accompany the officers to the station.

The Bill being championed by majority leader Samuel Phogisio and majority whip Irungu Kang’ata will see the less populous counties lose revenue amounting to Sh17 billion.

Team Kenya that comprises of Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Aaron Cheruiyot, Mutula Kilonzo Jnr among others want a win-win formula.
