SDA Pastor Arrested For Defiling 14-Year-Old Girl

Police in Homa Bay County on Wednesday, December 9 arrested a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church pastor for allegedly defiling a Class Eight girl.

According to the police, Bernard Tambo, who is in-charge of Homa Bay East District, is reported to have defiled the 14-year-old girl on Wednesday afternoon, December 2 in the church’s house meant for a pastor’s residence.

The pastor surrendered himself to the police with his lawyer after going underground for six days.

Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Koskey while confirming the incident stated that the suspect had been on the run since he allegedly committed the offence.

“The pastor has been underground but he surrendered this morning when he was accompanied by his lawyer,” Koskey said.

Koskey added that he will be subjected to medical tests before he is arraigned in court.

“He has to undergo medical tests as protocol for acquiring evidence regarding the alleged offence. We will arraign him in court later after the test,” he added.

The girl was reportedly sent by her teacher to deliver letters to the pastor in his house where she was defiled.

Police say Pastor Tambo lured the minor during the visit before forcing her into his bedroom where he defiled her.

He reportedly threatened dire consequences should she reveal the incident to anyone.

The act was discovered by the teacher who sent the child to deliver letters. The teacher interrogated her on why she too had taken long to return to school which is only 50 meters away from the church.

The girl confessed the details of what happened to her teacher.

Realizing that the police had been notified of the incident, the pastor switched off his mobile phone before disappearing.

The pastor was organizing a fundraiser to raise funds for settling medical bills of his child who is admitted in a Nairobi hospital.

He is being detained at Homa Bay Police Station.
