On Tuesday, Deputy President William Ruto made an impromptu visit to Jubilee headquarters in Pangani with the objective of present Ex-ODM member Sharlet Akinyi as the substantive Jubilee Party candidate for the upcoming Msambweni parliamentary seat.
But when the DP’s plan were scattered by a defiant Secretary General Raphael Tuju, Ruto was forced back to the drawing board.
With political pundits opining that President Uhuru Kenyatta was averting a looming political showdown between Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, independent candidate Feisal Abdallah Bader has thrown spanner in the works.
Thursday’s meeting at Karen between the DP and Feisal Bader all but confirmed which horse Ruto would be backing for the December by election.
The move by Ruto to host the independent candidate at his office has irked Sharlet Mariam Akinyi, who now accuses the DP of double standards.
She says that Jubilee led by DP Ruto short-changed her only days after she quit Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a video posted on social media, an infuriated Mariam has dared Ruto to prepare for a full-fledged battle in the Msambweni by-elections.
After being left in the cold by Jubilee Party, the only female candidate announced that she will be running on an independent ticket.
“Mwanamke amejitokeza na anafinyiliwa chini. Mimi nasema ivi, niko tayari kupambana na wanaume. Dynasties or no dynasties mimi niko tayari kupambana na wanaume…”
“It is so saddening that when woman a woman announces her position, she is oppressed… Dynasties or no dynasties I am ready to face all men,” an angry Mariam lamented.
Earlier on Wednesday, September 23, Secretary General Raphael Tuju announced that Jubilee would not field a candidate in Msambweni as a sign of good faith to the handshake between Kenyatta and Odinga.
A disgruntled Ruto on Wednesday expressed his disappointment following Tuju’s announcement since the DP was ready to unveil Sharlet Mariam, a former ODM party member as the substantive Jubilee candidate for the by-election.
Ruto on Thursday dashed Mariam’s hope of getting his support after he appeared to embrace Independent candidate Feisal Bader.
“Met an aspirant for Msambweni Parliamentary seat Feisal Abdallah Bader in the company of Coast MPs Athman Shariff (Lamu East), Moha Jicho Pevu (Nyali), Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga) and Hon Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) at Karen, Nairobi County,” Ruto said on Thursday
