Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, October 19, arrested Marcos Menza Masumbuko suspected of eloping with a 13-year-old class 8 pupil.
The 23-year-old suspect alias ‘Vasco’ was arrested at the Mathare Police Depot in Nairobi.
The detectives identified him after an analysis of forensic evidence led them to a Facebook page, where Masumbuko had befriended the girl before luring her to his house.
Masumbuko is reported to have cohabited with the girl for some time before he facilitated her escape to her aunt’s home in Nyakach.
He is said to had shaved his dreadlocks after the girl was reported missing to avoid being arrested.
The DCI further warned culprits who prey on minors that their evil days are soon coming to an end.
The agency also asked parents to be vigilant in monitoring the sites their children are visiting especially now that more kids are taking classes online.
The Class 8 pupil had reportedly went missing from her parent’s Upper Hill home just a day to schools reopening.
She was later found at her aunt’s home in Nyakach.
Her parents had had suspicion that she had been lured by an online fraudster posing as a tutor.
They also found exam answer sheets that the unknown tutor had marked.
