Tension in Nyamira as anti-riot police disperse crowd at Kebirigo High School that was awaiting DP William Ruto’s visit to the region.

It is reported that Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba had banned the DP’s planned meetings at Kebirigo and Miriri Secondary in Kitutu Masaba constituency citing yesterday’s directive by Head of Public Service Jushua Kinyua.

“Following an advisory by the National Security Council, Nyamira County commissioner Mr. Amos Mariba has with immediate effect suspended DP Ruto’s Nyamira tour which was scheduled on 8th October, 2020 for failing to notify and abide by the NSC guidelines.” Reads the statement by Nyamira County Commissioner.

The DP was scheduled to lead a fundraising drive for boda boda operators in the area.

According to the reports, the officers entered the school compound and told a band playing music to stop before ordering them out of the venue stating that no function was going to take place.

“Following that order, you have a few minutes to vacate this place as soon as you can,” a senior police officer was heard saying.

It is said that DP Ruto’s advance team had already arrived at the venue in preparation of Ruto’s visit.

This comes just a day after the National Security Advisory Committee led by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua warned against campaigns that it said were being used to incite youths.

NSAC issued a stern warning to those whose campaign messaging they said attacked personal rights that may trigger discrimination based on economic status.

In what appeared to be an attack to DP’s hustler vs dynasty tag, Kinyua said that the campaign messaging being used by politicians may trigger discrimination on the basis of ethnic background, economic status, race, religion or associations.”

The Security organ echoed the National Cohesion and Integration Commission statement on Sunday warning against the hustler versus dynasty narrative, saying the dichotomy is genocidal.
