President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have penned emotional tribute to the late Matungu Member of Parliament Justus Murunga Makokha.
In separate colourful messages, Uhuru and Ruto described the death of Murunga as heartbreaking adding that he was a focused and visionary leader who constantly advocated for the empowerment of his constituents.
President Uhuru in his message of condolence to the family, relatives, friends and residents of Matungu Constituency on Sunday morning, November 15, eulogised Murunga as a diligent and industrious servant of the people.
The president described the late MP as a dedicated public servant to his constituents whose focus was to the welfare of the residents of Matungu.
“In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Hon Murunga’s family, relatives and the people of Matungu Constituency. My thoughts and prayers are with you,” Uhuru said.
DP Ruto in a series of tweets on Saturday night, said that he will miss the late MP’s firmness, counsel and vibrancy.
“We are heartbroken by the death of Matungu MP Justus Murunga Makokha. He was a focused, hardworking and visionary leader who relentlessly advocated for the empowerment of the people.”
“A development-oriented titan who was dedicated to public service, Mheshimiwa Murunga was steadfast, amiable and loving. We will miss his firmness, wise counsel and vibrancy to unite and transform Western region.”
“Our thoughts and prayers to the Makokha family, their loved ones and the people of Matungu Constituency. Rest In Peace, Mheshimiwa,” Ruto said.

The first-time lawmaker died on Saturday night, November 14 while being admitted at the St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias, Kakamega County.
Murunga reportedly collapsed at his Matungu home before he was rushed to the facility.
Former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale said that the MP had earlier been discharged from Kisumu Aga Khan Hospital where he had been treated for diabetes.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have learned of the death of Hon Justus Makokha Murunga, the MP for Matungu in Kakamega who collapsed at his home 3 days after his discharge from Kisumu Aga Khan Hospital where he had been treated for diabetes. RIP my brother,” Khalwale said.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya in his condolence mourned the late MP as a “hardworking and selfless leader”.
“Hon Justus Murunga was a hardworking and selfless leader whom we worked together closely to develop Matungu. I’m deeply saddened by his death which has robbed Kakamega [of] a focused leader whose contribution in the development of our county will be missed. May his soul rest in peace,” said Oparanya on his Twitter page Saturday night.
Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi mourned Murunga saying “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Matungu MP Hon. Justus Murunga. I pray that God will grant his family strength during this unfortunate time. My most sincere condolences to his family and the people of Matungu.”
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi also eulogized the late lawmaker: “I have learnt with great sadness of the untimely demise of Matungu MP, Hon. Justus Murunga Makokha this evening. My deepest condolences to his family and the people of Matungu Constituency whom he served with utmost passion and commitment. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
