Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has revealed his biggest political mistake following his impeachment in January this year.
Speaking to Kameme FM on Tuesday morning, November 24, Waititu hit out at his then deputy and the current Kiambu Governor James Nyoro stating that making him his running mate is one of the biggest political mistakes he has ever made.
“The main reason why I am out of office is because of the impeachment which was led by Kiambu Speaker Stephen Ndichu and Nyoro,” Waititu said.
The former governor further revealed what led him to choose Nyoro as his running mate despite having many options.
He stated that former Kameme FM presenter Karungo Thang’wa was his first choice for a running mate but decided to go with Nyoro because his corporate image.
On his plans for 2022 elections, Waititu said that he is ready to serve Kiambu people once again indicating that his time in office was cut short following his impeachment in January 2020.
“I am hopeful that I will serve Kiambu residents once again because I believe that my removal from office was politically instigated,” he stated.
Waititu wants the constitution be amended to address the process of removing elected leaders from office.
He maintained that the removal from office of governors should be done by the public instead of MCAs adding that the ward representatives can be swayed to vote in a certain way.
“The Kiambu county assembly reported that 63 ward reps impeached me which is not true because I was only impeached by 57 members.”
“The ward representatives can be manipulated or bribed to vote in a certain way,” Waititu added.
