Wajir Governor in Hot Soup as MCAs Make Moves to Oust Him Over Corruption Allegations

Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamoud is at the risk of been ousted from his office after a notice of his impeachment has been tabled to the county assembly.

Benani member of the county assembly Abdi Mohamed is the one who has drafted the motion that accuses the governor of mishandling the powers given to his office.

He has added that the governor has been involved in a series of corruption cases among other allegations. He has said that this is just but an initial step and that they are following all the provisions in the law whereby more steps will follow to ensure that the motion will be tabled in the county assembly of Wajir.

The MCA has added that the impeachment motion was not their first priority and that all the other ways to resolve the matters with the governor proved futile.

The clerk of the Wajir County Assembly Shali Sheikh has confirmed the receipt of the notice saying that so far 23 members out of the 49 in the county assembly have signed the petition to impeach the said governor. He has added that the number is more than the one third that is required to table the motion.

Bute MCA Adan Ibrahim has said that all the options have been explored and that impeachment is the only valid option.

Mohamoud is accused of corruption and gross misconduct in the operations of the county activities.

He joins the governors such as the ousted Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and the Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who narrowly escaped impeachment thanks to the senate decision.
